This is the second part of my review of my games in the last Lichess4545 season. You can find the first part here.
Round 5
In round 5, I misplayed a strange QGD quite horribly as black and was soon under a lot of pressure on the kingside.White to play
White is clearly better due to the strong kingside attack supported by the bishop pair. Their only problem is their king's position but they have time to fix this.
20.h4 c5
I tried to break open the centre in order to get counterplay.
21.Qg2 cxd4 22.g5?!
White didn't need to rush with their attack. Better would have been 22.cxd4 Qa3 23.Be2 Rac8 24.O-O Now black's knight is still passive, white's king is safer and white can still decide to continue the attack on the kingside.
22...Ne5 23.Bc2 Bh5 24.gxh6?!
It was better to take the f-pawn since this gains a tempo on the queen and white can take on d5 with check next.
24...Bf3?
24...Rf7 would have given black an advantage since white's attack hasn't succeded and their king is still in the centre.
25.Qg3??
This just loses the h1-rook. White should have played 25.Qxg7+ Qxg7 26.hxg7 Rf7 27.Rg1 =
I converted my advantage and won the game.
Round 6
I was black again in round 6 and wanted to play something different in the opening. So I decided to play the Dutch for the first time and it went quite well.
White to play
15.Bxe7?!
I was quite certain that my opponent would play this move but it's inaccurate even though white trades off black's "good" bishop for white's "bad" bishop. The reason for this is that this allows black to activate their light squared bishop with e6-e5 and create an attack on the kingside.
15...Qxe7 16.c5?
Closing the queenside is a mistake since black is going to attack on the kingside and white should look for counterplay on the other side of the board.
16...e5 17.dxe5 Qxe5
Black is now able to attack freely on the kingside. All pieces apart from the a8-rook are already in place and white gives black time to include the second rook with the slow bishop maneuver.
18.Bf1 Rf7 19.Bg2? Raf8 20.O-O Qh5 21.Qd1 Rf3 0-1
Rf3 wasn't the only winning move but it was the most beautiful one.
